| Full Description Text Body | *Annual Crops When Fallow: Guidance for Protecting Crop Health During On-Farm Recharge* is a two-page resource for growers considering groundwater recharge on annual crop fields between harvest and planting. Its focus is on using the fallow period to replenish groundwater while planning around the needs of the next crop and ongoing farm operations. The guidance supports growers in considering recharge timing, water application, soil drainage, and the interval needed between recharge and subsequent field activities. Used alongside site-specific assessment and field monitoring, it can help growers evaluate how recharge fits into their crop rotation and seasonal management schedule. Intended primarily for annual crop growers and farm managers, the sheet also serves agronomists, crop advisors, and technical assistance providers supporting agricultural managed aquifer recharge. Developed through the Flood-MAR Network’s Recharge & Crop Health Action Team, with Sustainable Conservation as a project partner, this resource is part of a seven-crop guidance series covering alfalfa, almonds, annual crops, pasture, pistachios, vineyards, and walnuts. |
