Lunch-MAR webinars take place the first Wednesday of each month. In these webinars, network members and invited guests present on and discuss a wide range of topics relevant to Flood-MAR, ranging from water rights to geophysics.
The Willamette FIRO Pilot Study is exploring how advanced forecasting, adaptive reservoir operations, and ecosystem restoration can work hand-in-hand. Andy Martin (USACE Portland District) will share lessons learned from this multi-agency effort to support fish, flows, flood protection, and water supply reliability.
This project involves the construction and operations of two lined off-channel ponds with a combined storage capacity of 7.8 million gallons. The ponds are filled entirely during the wet season via direct precipitation and hillslope sheet-flow capture. Approximately 30 gpm of water will be released from the ponds via shallow groundwater flow during the dry season (typically July-October) to augment low summer stream flows ...
Sacramento State Geology Professor Amelia Vankeuren will share findings from five years of monitoring water quality during Flood-MAR on vineyards in Sacramento County. The talk explores how flooding fields affects water chemistry and flow, including potential contamination from nutrients, pesticides, and trace metals; and tracers of groundwater source, flow path, and age. Results highlight how recharge water interacts with existing groundwater and aquifer sediments and provide insight into water
The Flood-MAR Network host quarterly workshops. These workshops provide opportunities for members to engage in conversations and collaborate on Flood-MAR projects.
Flood-MAR Network Workshop: 2024 Recap and 2025 Visioning
Friday March 28, 2025, 10 AM – 12 PM
This virtual workshop aimed to reflect on the progress made in 2024, re-energize our collective efforts, and collaboratively shape priorities for 2025. Key objectives were:
• Showcase recent impactful work from Network Members
• Advance collaborative initiatives for Flood-MAR implementation in CA
• Encourage active participation in the Network’s activities
• Engage members in the planning of the 2025
State Water Resources Control Board, CA Department of Water Resources, and CA Department of Fish and Wildlife co-hosted a workshop on the 180-day temporary water rights permit application process and the technical and regulatory assistance available for local public agencies working on recharge projects using high flows.
This workshop reviewed actual Flood-MAR efforts, highlight successes as well as missed opportunities, and culminated in the identification of Network actions that are needed to place California on the path to realizing the goal of increasing average annual managed groundwater recharge by 500,000 ac-ft.
The Flood-MAR Public Forum is a multi-day event held every other year to share latest research and information on Flood-MAR and to foster networking and collaboration opportunities.
