Full Description Text Body

*Vineyards: Guidance for Protecting Crop Health During On-Farm Recharge* is a two-page resource intended to help grape growers evaluate groundwater recharge opportunities while protecting vine health. It addresses the series’ central planning question: how much water can be applied, and for how long, without harming the crop?

The guidance series examines how crop dormancy, temperature, root-zone oxygen, soil texture, and infiltration and drainage affect recharge suitability and crop health risks. It supports planning water applications and drainage intervals using site-specific assessment, grower knowledge, and monitoring of crop and field conditions.

Intended primarily for grape growers and vineyard managers, this resource also supports viticulturists, crop advisors, and technical assistance providers working on agricultural managed aquifer recharge.

The sheet is part of the Flood-MAR Network’s Recharge & Crop Health guidance series, developed with Sustainable Conservation as a project partner. Individual sheets cover alfalfa, almonds, annual crops, pasture, pistachios, vineyards, and walnuts, helping practitioners consider recharge opportunities across different crops and agricultural settings.
